Overview

The role of a Dogman at Two Way Cranes involves supporting crane operations by ensuring the safe and efficient rigging and directing of loads. Responsibilities include attaching loads to lifting equipment, providing clear and precise signals to crane operators, and ensuring that loads are securely and correctly rigged according to safety standards. Additionally, the Dogman works closely with the crane operator and other site personnel to coordinate lifting operations, promote a safe work environment, and comply with all relevant regulations and industry standards. Through diligent rigging practices and effective communication, the Dogman plays a vital role in facilitating smooth and safe lifting operations, contributing to the overall success and safety of Two Way Cranes’ projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Attach loads to lifting equipment using appropriate rigging gear.
  • Inspect rigging gear and loads to ensure safety and compliance with standards.
  • Adjust rigging as necessary to secure loads properly.
  • Provide clear and precise hand and verbal signals to crane operators.
  • Maintain constant communication with crane operators and site personnel to coordinate lifting operations.
  • Use radios or other communication devices as required for clear, uninterrupted communication.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Conduct pre-lift inspections and assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Ensure all lifting operations comply with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Work closely with crane operators, site supervisors, and other personnel to plan and execute lifts.
  • Assist in the preparation and setup of lifting operations, including the placement of cranes and other equipment.
  • Support the team in achieving project goals while maintaining a high standard of safety and efficiency.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain rigging equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.
  • Report any equipment defects or issues to the appropriate personnel for repair or replacement.
  • Keep rigging gear organised and stored properly when not in use.
  • Maintain accurate records of lifting operations, including rigging inspections and any incidents.
  • Complete necessary paperwork related to safety checks, equipment inspections, and lifting plans.
  • Report any incidents, near-misses, or safety concerns to the HSEQ Manager and Project Managers promptly

Experience and Skills

Have extensive experience in rigging and directing loads within the mobile crane and construction industry. Have a strong understanding of lifting operations, safety protocols, and industry standards, with proven expertise in attaching, securing, and signalling loads. Key skills include load rigging, communication, hazard identification, and equipment inspection. Possess strong teamwork, coordination, and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with crane operators and site personnel, ensuring safe and efficient lifting operations. Demonstrate a commitment to safety and compliance, promoting a culture of diligence and continuous improvement in all lifting activities. Must hold a High Risk Work Licence for Dogging (DG), ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and the ability to perform high-risk tasks safely and effectively.
